Stapleton and Lowry
Stapleton and Lowry, both sites of former air installations, are being transformed into communities of the future. Stapleton, once Denver's international airport, and covering 4,700 acres, will become a community of 12,000 homes, 13 million square feet of commercial offices and retail, and 1,100 acres of parkland and open space. The site is expected to build-out over a 15 to 20 year timeframe. Construction of the first neighborhood and commercial area began in 2002. The old terminal parking structure and control tower are all that remain from the previous use. Lowry, once an Air Force Base which closed in 1994, has been undergoing redevelopment for the last several years. The 1,866 acre site is to be home to over 4,000 new residential units, a 156 acre college campus, an 86 acre business park, and almost 800 acres of parkland. Over 1,500 new dwelling units have already been built, with several hundred more currently under construction.(Click on the thumbnails for larger pics)
